Mehmet Efe Biresselioglu is a Professor of Energy Policy in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Dean of Graduate School and Head of Sustainable Energy Division at Izmir University of Economics. He is also acting as the Steering Committee Member of European Energy Research Alliance’s (EERA) Joint Programme on Economic, Environmental and Social Impacts of Energy Policies and Technologies, and the Head of Izmir Circle of Mediterranean Citizens’ Assembly (ACIMEDIT). He also taught as a Visiting Lecturer on Energy Security and Politics at Den Haag University, University of Aalborg, Budapest College of Management, University of Salerno and University of Minho. Previous to his current positions, he acted as a Lecturer at EU’s INOGATE Programme; Advisor to the Chairman of Ankara Chamber of Industry; Sr. Visiting Research Fellow in Norwegian Institute of International Affairs’ Energy Program; non-resident Jr. Fellow at Finnish Business and Policy Forum and Management Trainee at Deniz Investment’s headquarters. He completed his Ph.D. at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy and also received his ‘Doctor Europaeus’ degree with the approval of Confederation of EU Rectors. He received his MA in European Studies from Jean Monnet Center of Excellence at University of Turku, Finland and his BA in Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University, Turkey. He is also proud to be a graduate of TED Ankara College for his high school education similar to many of his family members. His research interests lie in the area of energy security, energy policy, energy economics, and energy transition. He published several articles related to energy issues in the leading journals such as Energy Policy, Renewable Energy, Energy, and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. He is also the author of the “European Energy Security: Turkey’s Future Role and Impact” (UK: Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) and the editor of “Enerji Güvenliği Perspektifinden Türkiye’ye Bakış” (TR:EHAEY, 2015).
After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Department of Industrial Engineering in Bilkent University in 1992, Assoc. Prof. Muhittin Hakan Demir, pursued his Master’s in the same university in 1994. He continued for Ph.D. at the same university, and graduated in 2001. Dr. Demir worked at Vestel A.Ş. as an investment specialist and then Teba Günkol A.Ş. and Yaşar Holding as a team leader. In 2008, he became an Assistant Professor in İzmir University of Economics, Department of Logistics Management. Since 2009, he has been also the head of the Department of Logistics Management. His research interest is mostly on supply chain management, logistics and facility location.
Sitki Egeli holds degrees from Bosphorus University (BA, Political Science), University of Chicago (MA, Security Studies), and Bilkent University (PhD, International Relations. Beginning his professional career in US, in 1991, he joined Turkey’s Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) where he eventually became the Director for International Affairs. Between 2000 and 2015, he held senior executive position in an international consulting firm. Since 2015, he has been teaching international relations and international security courses at Izmir University of Economics. He has published several books, articles and papers on proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery means, air and missile defense, nuclear deterrence, air power, space security, international arms trade, and export controls.
Özlem Döğerlioğlu Işıksungur graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Law in 1996 and gained working experience as a Turkish lawyer. She holds a master’s degree in International Business Law awarded from Yeditepe University. Following, by receiving a scholarship from France, she continued her education in France and entitled her second master’s degree in International Business Law from EDHEC Business School with her thesis on “Online Arbitration”. Moreover, she entitled her PhD (doctorate) degree from Ankara University in 2011 with her thesis titled “Consumer Regulations in EU Energy Market and their Repercussions on Turkish Energy Legislation”. For a short time, she worked in the Law Office of Vilson & Elkins in London and in the Trade Department of the Turkish Embassy in Paris. She served as a Turkish lawyer and provided legal consultancy to national and international clients. Her core expertise areas are Commercial Law, Energy Law, Energy Efficiency Law, Climate Change Law, EU Law, Digitalisation. She has extensive experience in research and consultancy on local, international, comparative and European energy law, energy issues and EU acquis. Until today, she has worked as a legal consultant in many energy and renewable energy projects. Taking part as legal expert in EU and Word-Bank Projects, she has also gained experience on low carbon development. At the same time, she is a columnist in the Turkish Energy Reviews. She is a member of Turkish Wind Energy Association (TUREB), Turkish Solar Energy Industry Association (GENSED) and World Energy Council Turkish National Committee. Özlem Döğerlioğlu Işıksungur has attended many conferences both in Turkey and abroad and has successfully completed many certificates.
Graduating from Izmir University of Economics in 2017, Berfu SOLAK gained two B.A. degrees from the departments of Political Science and International Relations, and English Translation and Interpreting. Following her graduation, she completed her M.A. in Sustainable Energy Division in Izmir University of Economics in 2019. During her master studies, she worked as a project assistant and researcher in the EU 2020 ECHOES project. Currently, she continues her PhD in Political Science and International Relations in Izmir University of Economics. Besides, she works as a research scholar in a TUBITAK project called “Challenges and Opportunities in the Arctic Region: Designing a Strategic Roadmap for Turkey”.
Şebnem ALTINCI graduated from Izmir University of Economics, Department of Political Science and International Relations in 2019. She currently continues her M.A. degree at Izmir University of Economics, Sustainable Energy Division. She works as a research scholar in the TUBITAK project: “Challenges and Opportunities in the Arctic Region: Designing a Strategic Roadmap for Turkey “.
Altan Kayacan has been working as a lawyer registered in the Izmir Bar Association. Having completed his undergraduate degree in İzmir University of Economics Faculty of Law in 2017 and his master’s degree in the same institution in 2018 at the Private Law Graduate Program, Kayacan continues his academic life at Izmir University of Economics Political Science and International Relations PhD Program. Besides, he worked for TUBITAK project No. 118K497 “Challenges and Opportunities in the Arctic region: Designing a Strategic Roadmap for Turkey” in 2019-2020.
